Chicago Red Stars won their preseason match 5-0 against Northwestern Wildcats on April 3rd. The match was received with excitement as fans attended in large numbers, including supporters group 134, and the team wore the new Red Stars secondary kit for the upcoming season. The game was held at Northwestern at Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium. Although a windy day for the windy city, the lakeside field and warm spring weather provided a picturesque setting for both player and fans.

Chicago established possession early in the first half with establishing good chemistry between Sofia Huerta and Jen Hoy. Hoy gave Chicago an early lead going into the half with two goals. Sofia Huerta capitalized on her opportunities to tally two goals as well. Including an absolute rocket on her second goal. Alyssa Mautz ended the match with her goal to make it 5-0. Although the tempo was slow at first, Chicago’s tempo picked up quickly as the match progressed. DiBernardo and Collaprico helped facilitate and defend the mid allowing position and pace to be maintained and lines to be broken down; and forwards to finish their goals leading them to victory.
The Red Stars final preseason game will be against a very talented Notre Dame team this Wednesday, April 6th, afterwards final roster cuts begin. The final roster deadline is fast approaching. Rory Dames and his coaching staff will have to use these final two preseason games to determine the complete squad for 2016.
